Government and Media

How to turn people against government through media:

One way to destroy the government would be to advertise and expand the bad things they do, such as if they say something wrong expand what they say and broadcast itAdvertise an alternative way of thinking, a new and better government. The media has a huge influence on how people view what is happening. Another way to destroy the government would be to advertise and expand the bad things they do, such as if they say something wrong expand what they say and broadcast it.

The Influence of Media in Politics summarised

  • Changes peoples views
  • Could be commiting there own opinions  (biased)
  • Journalists have there own motives
  • If you want a balanced view you would have to read a number of different articles
  • Newspapers can become campaigners (fight for what they see fit)
  • Puts pressure on people and makes them change views hastily
  • Newspapers and the public are a poweful combination and can pressure people

Main issues related to media ownership

There are many issues related with media ownership. One of these reasons is that the storys may often be biased as the editors may not want the whole story and want to deceive the audience in believing what they want them to. Also powerful coperations are able to influence different media types with there infirmation there giving, which in most cases may not be all the information given. Another issue is that if a company grows it can access over companies and buy them, creating a conglomerate.

Media Terminology

MONOPOLY-the possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service
CONGLOMERATE- A Company that owns a large number of other companies
MULTI-NATIONAL- A company operating in different countries
MEDIA TYCOON- A business leader in the media industry

Channel Research

E!

The Channel "E!" was launched July 1987 in the United States and was originally called "Movietime". "Movietime" was founded by Larry Namer and Alan Mruvka and the controlling ownership was held by Consortium. It showed movie trailers, entertainment news and event and awards coverage however now it also airs many shows such as Fashion Bloggers, Total Divas and many shows based on the Kardashian family. Movietime changed its name to E! to accomidate the change of the channel as it started to cover film, telivision, music, daily gossip and fashion.

Murdoch's attack on BBC

Murdoch comments about companies like the BBC, who are funded by the license fee, making it hard for Broadcasters to stay active. He also says that compaired to other channels the BBC's income is gaurenteed for it is Dominant. Independant and Private journalists are finding it harder to succeed as they have to ask people to pay for the news this threatening their companies as they need to make money and profit.

Personally I think that it unfair the BBC is making people pay a license fee as it gives them a profit even if the people watching TV are not watching the BBC. However I dont see all Murdochs points are fair, this is shown when he says the BBC are to blame for the loss of profit as there are other factors that are linked to this reason such as being able to access news online for free.

My Opinion on Social Media

'Social Networks don't bring us closer together as we know talk through computers rather than each other'

Many people will disagree with this statement for they have a fondness for social media because it gives an escape from everyday life, many social networks also allow people to communicate with friends they may have nit had contact with for sometime. Although many people do agree with this statement for while contacting people on-line there is no emotion while talking to each other, which may lead into people misinterpreting what the other has said leading to them being unsociable towards one another while together face to face.

Some people may agree with this statement due to the fact that people are talking through Media and not face to face can mean we are becoming ignorant toward others that may be in the room. for example even if you are talking to someone, like your close friend, the people who are physically close to you may feel they are being ignored because you are spending you time messaging someone through a social network and not socialising with the people who are currently with you. However social media can help bring people closer together. Social Networking sights help people who have anxiety, such as Social Anxiety, will help bring people become closer to others for they can ask people on-line if they would like to 'hang out' which they may not be able to in person due to the nervousness due to the anxiety.

Personally I disagree with this statement because social media means you can socialise, through media,  with people from different countries as well as local friends. Being able to communicate through Media enables you to talk to people from different countries with different religions and traditions, which can help you understand their views on what's right and wrong and befriend them. Also from other people reports they also disagree with this statement, such as Abigail Smith, who says that 'Social Media is the glue that keeps their world together' referring to people who are in long distance relationships. This shows that Social Media is important as it keeps relationships and families together because it lets them contact each other and keep there relationship strong.

Promoting A Record Label

If I had to promote a record label on a social media website I would:

·         Create them their own page

·         Offer prizes to a certain amount of followers, for example: the next 10 followers get a free signed CD

·         Offer some things for free

·         Promote concerts

·         Promote competitions

My Facebook Feed!

On my Facebook most of my friends only post about themselves however I follow some pages that update me on my interests such as the latest music gossip or the news of film progress and its trailer release. Also on my feed recently there has been many videos from peoples ALS ice bucket challenge which is raising money for the ALS charity however I don’t normally get videos on my Facebook feed. Personally I think people share videos like these so that the charities awareness is spread worldwide raising more money for their charity because they know many people respond to dares and challenges because of the viral cinnamon challenge.

Internet Use!

In a recent survey I have notice I spent most of my time online, especially on website such as Netflix, which I use for movies, and YouTube where I watch my favourite YouTubers. Also while I watch videos on these websites I use others, such as Facebook messenger and Meowchat to talk to my friends, whether it’s my school friends or friends from across the world. Although I check my Instagram feed frequently, whether I’m on the bus or sat in a coffee shop, I use these websites more frequently but I spend less time on them at once, I find this happens mostly with twitter and Facebook. Many people think spending time online is wasteful however I find it helpful, I find out the news on Facebook and Google as well as finding out the latest trends on Instagram and twitter. I also find the internet useful for homework because its quicker to research facts and topics on Google then having to go to the library and search through books. Therefore i find the internet overall useful.
